Q. Even if I shower or bath with the window open, I still have a problem with mould growing on my bathroom ceiling especially in winter. What can I do?

A. As a Dulux Trade certified applicator Boland Painters is glad to say that Dulux Wash&Wear +Plus Kitchen & Bathroom Low Sheen, comes with a ten year guarantee against mould growth. Before painting though clean the mould of the ceiling by scrubbing with a scouring pad and a mixture of two parts water and one part bleach. Leave the mixture on the sealing for fifteen minutes, then wash of with clean water and wipe dry. Heavy mould may require you to repeat this process a few times. If there is any cracks or holes fill them, sand down and spot prime with Dulux 1Step. If the ceiling is painted with enamel, remember to lightly sand and dust of before apllying Dulux Wash&Wear Plus Kitchen & Bathroom Low Sheen.

    First tile then paint

    Q. We have been dreaming of re-doing our kitchen for years now. After much debate we decided to take the plunge and go for it. Now we are wondering what we should do first, paint the walls or tile the floor?

    A. Well this question caused quite some debate in the Boland Painters, Builders and Electrical Contractor's office, but in the end we all agreed that tiling first is the best option. Allow the tile cement and grout to dry completely then cover the floor with heavy duty plastic taping the edges to the tiles with masking tape. And then start painting the walls. After all it is easier to cover a floor that it is to cover all the walls.
