Send us your Question

What is the right paint colour for you? That indeed is the question and one that many people find difficult to answer. At Boland Painters and Restores we believe that anyone can pick the perfect colour. To help you choose the right paint colour we compiled a list of colour tips to get you started.

Pick a colour from the largest design element in the room. If you have a huge colourful rug or piece of art choose a colour in the pattern. Prefer a more neutral wall colour, pick the off-whites or creams in the pattern.

Start with the areas you receive guests in first. For example the lounge and dining room, decide on a wall colour for these areas and then incorporate that colour as an accent colour in other spaces.

When clients approach Boland Painters for paint colour advise we always recommend working from dark to light from the floor up. The floor being the darkest element in the room with the walls in a medium colour tone and the ceilings the lightest part.

Looking at the the colour of the favourite clothes you wear is also a good indication of what colours you like and feel comfortable with. It only makes sense to paint a room in the colours you feel comfortable with.

The golden ratio? Well that's what we at Boland Painters call it, ever heard interior decorators talk about a primary colour, a secondary colour and a accent colour? This is were the golden ration comes into play, use 60 percent of your dominant or primary colour, 30 percent of your secondary colour and 10 percent of your accent colour.

We hope this bit of advise inspires you to experiment with paint colour in your home. Please check back on a regular basis as Boland Painters will be posting lots more colour advice.

    First tile then paint

    Q. We have been dreaming of re-doing our kitchen for years now. After much debate we decided to take the plunge and go for it. Now we are wondering what we should do first, paint the walls or tile the floor?

    A. Well this question caused quite some debate in the Boland Painters, Builders and Electrical Contractor's office, but in the end we all agreed that tiling first is the best option. Allow the tile cement and grout to dry completely then cover the floor with heavy duty plastic taping the edges to the tiles with masking tape. And then start painting the walls. After all it is easier to cover a floor that it is to cover all the walls.

What our clients say
